You guys might have known what is up here by me bringing up the phrases above.  Yay! It’s about Italian cuisines. I can’t really recall when was my last visit to there, most probably was 1.5 yrs ago. However, this time around, I (read : we) became one of the many who rave about this place. Every single bit of the dishes prepared by the kitchen was divine.

This restaurant is neither a newbie nor a hidden gem, they have been there far longer than 10 years, 13 yrs to be exact. Trattoria was established in 2002 in Bali and since then had become known to tourists or locals for their home made pastas, breads, desserts.

Talking about the space-wise, the current space in Forum 9 they are currently located is less spacious than the old one (our Medan food blogger wrote a review on their old place here if you are keen to read). Less spacious but more chic design where the patrons are free to sit wherever they want, inside or outside the (indoor) fence, with preference for smoking or no-smoking area (I’m not too sure about the smoking issue though, lol).

Simple paintings are hung up on the wooden wall, small vase of artificial flowers on all the tables. And hey, do you notice the hanging lamp cap? Are they from aluminum basins? It turns out all elegant and very eye-catching.

Aside from the restaurant’s design, one of the uniqueness of this place is there is no picture of the dishes in their menu, and I have difficulty. Honestly, I need a picture to tell me that I made it right. LOL.

Based on their tongue-twisting menu printed on the recycled paper, we made our choices by scrutinizing the ingredients of each of the dishes recommended by the staff. Yeah, we don’t have any particular favorites there until last Sunday. What we need in an Italian Restaurant was nothing less than pizza and pasta.

First thing served to us was this complimentary ouch-its-hard-to-chew various kinds of Italian breads.

Capricciosa Pizza : Idr. 80,000 ++

Next on, first item from our orders came out on the table was this mouth-watering looking thin crust pizza, which is called Capricciosa. I wiki-ed for it, pizza capricciosa is a style of Italian pizza prepared with mozzarella cheese, baked ham, mushroom, artichoke (I didn’t notice about this) and tomato.

Love the thin crust, love the bell peppers, love the ham, I had 2 slices and still wanted to dig into the next piece. As I think of what to write to elaborate further, I find that’s all that really need to be said. A sincere love for Capricciosa <3

Tortellini (switched with fettuccine) Panna E Prosciutto : Idr. 70,000 ++

What came next was Tortellini Panna E Prosciutto (tongue-twisting enough? lol)

I swear by my neighbor’s mango tree, I will NOT remember the name of this dish right after I leave this page. Well, the friend’s daughter requested the kitchen to alternate the tortellini pasta with fettuccine. I stole like 2 mouthfuls to taste it. What I’m able to depict is, it’s so good! But what I also need to suggest is, unless you are a cheese lover, there’s no doubt that you must share this among the friends or relatives or neighbors or whoever you want. Hahaha.

Ravioli Alla Casentinese : Idr. 70,000 ++

I call it Italian dumpling. This maybe  my less favorite dish of all, but the friends love it. I like the sauce, the tomatoes used were very fresh too. But, in my very humble opinion, the tangy flavor of the tomatoes overwhelmed the other flavors.

Paglia E Fieno Con Pancetta : Idr. 65,000++

Paglia e fieno itself means mixture of yellow and green noodle cooked together and served with sauce. OK, I actually can’t tell what’s the dissimilarity between this and the fettuccine above. Not that I am dumb in differentiating between fettuccine and paglia e fieno, but to me, the difference in the sauce was extremely small. But I enjoyed this more. Here under is the pic.

As for the drinks, we ordered their specialty beverage, Lemon Lime Bitter. 3 lemon squash, 3 lemon lime bitter and 1 lemon tea cost us Idr. 123,000 ++

Service charge for all items is 5.5% plus the VAT 10%. As a result, total bill after the taxes came out to be Idr. 499,015.

Our lunch was beautiful, creamy, splendid and expensive at the same time. We were very satisfied with what the restaurant offered in terms of food and drink. But the service was just OK, not that the staffs were reluctant or slow in responding, but their facial expressions and body language tell it all. Anyway, they were quite fast and helpful when we asked for a lighter to lit the candle for the gf’s daughter belated birthday cake, but it would be nicer if they smile more often. Just a little thought of me, though.

Will visit them again soon for sure, even for now I’m drooling over the pizza while typing this. LOL.

But we have to remind ourselves not to choose the table on the far end corner in which we had to get the staffs to lower down the volume of the speaker (which was just right on the left side of our table) twice. Also, the air conditioning didn’t blow enough cold air to the corner we were seated.

So, u guys imagine, we talked so loud to each other, we laughed so hard and we fanned ourselves so hard too. LOL!
